Research in our lab is aimed at questions regarding cognitive control and subjective experience. We make use of a dual-process model that distinguishes between cognitively-controlled and more automatic influences of memory. This distinction between different forms or uses of memory has been shown to be useful for understanding age-related differences in memory as well as for the development of techniques to enhance memory performance. Issues related to metacognition have also been a focus for our research. Another line of research is aimed at applying results from basic research to develop optimal procedures for education. More recently, I have become interested in participant/observer investigation of the role of cognitive control in playing golf.
