First-Year Seminar: Race and Racism

Psychological & Brain Sciences 185 - Spring 2020

This first-year seminar aims to introduce students to theoretical and empirical research on race and racism. It will provide an overview of historical, sociological, political, epidemiological, and emphasize social psychological perspectives on racial bias. We will examine mechanisms that contribute to prejudice, stereotyping and discrimination. We will review how bias uniquely affects particular groups including: Native, Asian, Latino, White and Black Americans. We end the course with discussions about interracial interactions. PREREQ: Psych 100B
