Special Talk - "Mood Lifters: an acceptable, available, affordable and evidence-based mental wellness program"
Patricia Deldin, Ph.D.
University of Michigan
Mood Lifters is a novel, group-based, peer-led, low-cost, accessible, and rapidly scalable mental wellness program. The goal of the program is to provide theoretically rich, scientifically derived biopsychosocial mental health care in a destigmatized and welcoming environment to people who cannot or will not access traditional mental healthcare. The ultimate goal of the program is to address the worldwide mental healthcare crisis by helping to close the treatment gap between those who need mental healthcare and those who do not get it. In this talk, I will discuss the nature of the mental health care crisis and the theoretical underpinnings, development, and efficacy of the Mood Lifters program.
