This course addresses two questions: "Why do people do the things they do?" and "Why are people different from one another?" Answers to these questions fall into six broad domains: We know that people are influenced by biological events (the biological domain), by elements within their own minds, such as memories and desires (the intrapsychic domain), by traits they are born with or that develop (the dispositional domain), by their personal and private thoughts, feelings, and beliefs (the cognitive-experiential domain), by their social, cultural, and gendered positions in the world (the social and cultural domain), and by the adaptations and adjustments that they make to the inevitable challenges of life (the domain of adaptation and adjustment). Enrollment limited to 75. PREREQ: Psych 100B.
